Since we released LiveCycle ES3 we have received a tremendous response; a common question is what’s new since the last major release of LiveCycle; my goal here is to answer that question. Every major release includes a great deal of valuable sustaining and customer oriented updates too detailed to list but in themselves valuable in terms of keeping your systems up to date; what everybody wants to hear about however are the new features, so here goes.

LiveCycle Workbench & Foundation ES3 • CRX (Content Repository Extreme) is included with LiveCycle and licensed with Foundation. • Workbench includes Services & Operations for writing to, managing and reading from CRX. • Capability to import LC ES (v8.0) resources model assets into the LC Application model that was introduced in ES2. • Improved dependency management and “where used analysis” for managing application assets used in multiple contexts.

• Improved database integration, allows a database backed application model to be used to define native CRUD operations and queries that can be used in an orchestration. • Improved web service integration, allows a WSDL to be used to define a native operation that can be used in an orchestration. LiveCycle Designer / Forms / Output ES3 • Create and apply styles to objects in LiveCycle Designer ES3; allows for fine control and consistency of fonts, colors, borders, etc. In a form and across sets of forms. • Support for Bulleted, numbered and nested lists in text objects. • Change the flow of sub-forms and tables for right to left languages (Arabic and Hebrew) • Add bookmarks to generated PDF documents • Add flash objects to forms and communicate between the form and the SWF to display form data – Requires Reader/Acrobat X.

LiveCycle Common Services ES3 • Assembler has improved use case support for dynamic XDP assembly; for advanced document and package generation. • Doc Converter extends PDF/A support to the new PDF/A-2b standard. LiveCycle Process Management ES3 • Tracking UI has been improved and now also supports tracking into sub-processes. LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES3 • Support for XML encryption/decryption of all or part of form data – Requires Reader/Acrobat X. • RSA libraries have been updated for better performance and reliability. • HSM (hardware security module) support on Windows 64-bit systems.

LiveCycle Rights Management ES3 • Microsoft Office plug-ins for Windows 64 bit systems and Support for Office 2010. • Customize and private brand the authentication dialogs, including capability to implement multi-step wizards. • Additional single-sign-on capabilities through SAML security assertion mark-up language and federated identities. • Support for a wider variety of authentication mechanisms; header-based SSO (like SiteMinder) and verification of third party SAML assertions. • Portable protection Library – a lightweight library for developers to build management for rights and rights managed documents into their applications. • Expanded event tracking capabilities. LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES3 • No new features; works with Reader X and earlier versions.

LiveCycle ECM Connectors ES3 • IBM FileNet connector now supports FileNet version 5. • Microsoft SharePoint connector, support for SharePoint farm deployments. LiveCycle Data Services ES3 • Compatible with Flash Builder 4.6 and latest Flex SDK • Adds an SAP Connector and Managed remoting.
