I've been using my new Garmin Etrex Vista HCx for the last two. He told me to try the hard reset by holding down the power button, page. Nov 28, 2013 - I tried the factory reset using the menu in the etrex 20. And keep pressing the Menu and toggle buttons and power up the etrex. My old vista hcx had a setting that did that. Etrex owner's manual with a highlighted section.

When I got to looking at all of those preferences and settings, and thought to myself, what if I am offshore in a boat and this damn thing resets itself to default?

The terror of considering that resulted in my create an ASCII text file that has every setting I use in it and that permanently resides in my essentials bag for boat deliveries.
